Thanks, Cat ... got up between 4 and 4:30 this morning to have him at the hospital for 5:30 am. At 5:45 they took him back for gowning and IV, etc., and at 6:15 they came to get me and told me to hurry because they were already ready for him in the operating room. Was guided to the surgery waiting room to wait, and at 7:15 the doctor came out and told me the surgery had been aborted. Hubby had not had anesthesia yet, so I was to take him home.
Seems the scheduled surgery was based on the fact hubby complained of severe leg pains a couple of weeks ago, and had MRI and then surgery scheduled. Today, when questioned prior to surgery, he told surgeon the pain in his back was excrutiating (sp?). This stopped the neurosurgeon because the surgery scheduled to relieve the legs, would have made the pain in the back worse. Hubby had told me all along he was having back surgery, so I don't know where this leg thing came in, but it sounds like my hubby. His pain is from degenerative disc disease of the spine (top to bottom) and he does have a hard time walking, but he never complained to me about pain in the legs. Anyway, surgery was scrubbed...He is being lined up to see a different pain management doctor the first week in May. He has seen 2 already, with physical therapy with both already that did no good and back injections with both that did no good..........so I don't know what a 3rd one is going to do. If they give him pain medication, he will do better, but we all know that they work up a tolerance to the med so that it doesn't do any good anymore. I don't know what's going to happen. Anything I mention ...... like acupuncture or hospital type bed/chair gets pushed aside and not even considered......just along for the ride!

Thanks for the update Ginger! Geesh what a crazy morning at the hospital! Hope this third Dr can do something to help. Must be really frustrating, between the medical issues and trying to help hubby. Hang in there and let me know how it goes. Take care!

Had to call 911 this morning at 7 am and get hubby to the ER. They are keeping him overnight. Trouble breathing and disoriented. They have him sedated, but when he wakes, he is thrashing (probably because of the severe pain in his back)........don't know.......but they hired a sitter for him for the night since I can't handle that........plus I needed some rest.
Prayers are appreciated............

Hi Ginger~
Just seeing this now (04/30). Definitely sending all good thoughts and prayers your way. I hope your husband is doing better and that you've gotten some rest. Update us when you can, but prayers for peace and healing will continue in the meantime. Hugs sent your way too.

I don't usually check this thread so I hadn't seen this before.
I hope you and your husband are alright! I hope they were able to control his pain and that they can do something against the problem that is causing it. I'm sending you lots of strength and good vibes and hope that both of you can get through this! I wish you two all the best in these tough times.

Thank you for the update. On the one hand, it's good to hear that they found nothing. On the other, it's frustrating. Sure, 'nothing is wrong', but something IS wrong and it would be really good to know what. I hope you will come across a doctor soon who will run more tests, consider more possibilities, and find something that is treatable so that your husband can become better. I also hope that he'll at least be able to sleep some more. I guess none of the natural remedies work, you probably tried those already, and sleeping pills are dangerous stuff one can become addicted to way too quickly... I hope his body will realise its need for rest and allow him to find some.

Ginger, thank you for the update. So sorry to hear that your husband is having such difficulty sleeping. My father went through that, so I understand how challenging it can be for the patient as well as those around them. Continued positive thoughts and prayers to you both for sure, and many hugs.
