Not really my pet, just his fur! Those of you who are owned by long-haired cats will know how that hair sheds...my Ragdoll needs regular combing, particularly in Spring, or he gets uncomfortable tangles and knots. So, I thought of the ultimate recycling to help the garden birds build their nests! This is posted in an attempt to cheer up sad, sniffly IslandLife. Hopefully the upcoming update might ease your woes!

Chat noir Oh look at that... ????. Soooooo cute.... I’ve had hamsters since I was a kid, I love them, they’re great pets even though they don’t live too long. When my son was growing up I used him as an excuse to get more but now he’s 17 they’re not so cool anymore so I need another excuse to get one now! A tiny bit of chicken once every so often is good for them, along with egg. They need a small amount of protein. I used to have one of those balls too, the cat would spend his life trying to get the hamster out of its cage to ‘play’ but would run a mile when it was in the ball! ????

I really didn't think they lived that long either. He had an inside and outside house but spent most of his time inside and was an only guinea pig, I think this is maybe why he lived longer. His cage sat next to the bird cage , they were friends. When he heard the fridge open and the sound of a plastic bag he'd squeak like crazy wanting his lettuce leaves!

I love all of your fur family pics Tamara????????????
I think that’s one thing most SV players/Smurfs fans have in common - we all really love animals????????????

What a gorgeous girl????????????
My cats are talkers too, and I love it????????????

Tamara Abbott. I didn’t realise guinea-pigs lived for so long...may be the next addition to the household! I love the squeaks they make!

Adorable!!!! Remind me of my guinea pig I had! He was so spoilt. He lived for about 8 years ????

My husband makes a great pancake with oat flour. He browns the oats and then pulverizes them. And he makes a spectacular waffle with buckwheat and rye flour and whole wheat flour.
I find flax eed offputting, but the flax meal is virtually undetectable in the oatmeal. I don't use more than about 2 teaspoons of it. We should have a recipe topic for people who like to eat.<3

Schtroumpfette. Thanks for the recipe: sounds lovely. I put oats into my morning waffles (I also use flax seed in a vegan version for daughter, but I’m not keen on the taste) and top with yoghurt and maple syrup. The hamster’s not allowed any of that, but does sometimes get a tiny portion of husband’s scrambled egg!

Chat noir, my husband writes his fantasy world with characters that lean British, so I just wanted to be sure I wasn't making the wrong assumption.
I came up with a great recipe for oatmeal using Old-Fashioned oats (not the steel cut ones, but also not the instant ones). I found the microwave made them a little too mushy, so I pour boiling water over the oats and cover the vessel for five minutes until they hydrate. And because I love raisins, I toss in raisins, and some spices, a little tiny bit of brown sugar and a very small amount of maple syrup, and a little chia and flax for fiber (since I'm an old gal). I have it for breakfast nearly everyday. Oh, and I add some cream on top, because it tastes so yummy.
I'm very allergic to hamsters and guinea pigs, although I love seeing the pictures. I hope your daughter is feeling a lot better soon.

Yes, she is a very cute little house-guest while daughter recuperates (high ankle sprain) at our house. Loves running after people in her ball: the cat is not happy about that! And ah yes, the language-barrier!...porridge oats as in oatmeal, microwaved in a little water, yum!
